Restylane® Refyne/Defyne
Restylane® Refyne/Defyne are the only fillers that have been shown in a clinical study to help maintain natural movement and expressions. Both are formulated to act like your body’s own naturally occurring hyaluronic acid, restoring volume to your skin. These products are known as forms of Emervel® in other parts of the world.
What is unique about these products?
Restylane® Refyne and Restylane® Defyne use a proprietary technology known as XpresHAn Technology™, which allows for a unique combination of lift along with flexibility that allow the treated patient to show a range of facial expressions without looking unnatural.
What is the difference between Restylane® Refyne and Restylane® Defyne?
Both Restylane® Refyne and Restylane® Defyne are indicated for mid-to-deep injection into the facial tissue for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, in patients over the age of 21. Both products help restore volume to the skin. However, they differ in their degree of crosslinking. This helps determine the flexibility and support they each have. Defyne is more “tightly” crosslinked that Refyne is. Although both are flexible, Restylane® Refyne is more flexible and provides moderate support, while Restylane® Defyne is less flexible and more supportive.
How do these products compare to the original Restylane®?
Restylane® was FDA-approved in 2003 as the first non-animal, stabilized hyaluronic acid filler. It’s was created using NASHA™ technology. It features particles of uniform particle size and the basis of Restylane®, Restylane® Lyft and Restylane® Silk. Restylane® Refyne/Defyne were known as Emervel® range of fillers before they were rebranded by Galderma.
