The Spotlight on Sculptra!

Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm have become very popular. Here, we’re putting the spotlight on another dermal filler – Sculptra!

A brief history

Sculptra was initially used in individuals suffering from facial wasting due to HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). It was not until 2009 that it was used for cosmetic purposes – to reduce the appearance of smile lines and improve overall facial volume.

How Sculptra works

Generally, Sculptra works by replacing the decreasing collagen production caused by aging. Collagen is a type of protein that naturally occurs in the body and is primarily responsible for maintaining elasticity, firmness, and integrity in the skin and its surrounding structures. Low levels of collagen in the skin will result in lackluster skin and the appearance of wrinkles, folds, and lines.

Scultpra’s effects are two-fold: it fills in collagen-deficient areas and stimulates the production of natural collagen. Unlike other fillers that provide immediate results, Sculptra works gradually and will improve folds and creases over a period of weeks.

The following issues have been proven to respond well to Sculptra injections:

  • Folds between the nose and upper corners of the mouth (also known as nasolabial folds or smile lines)
  • Lines framing the mouth (also known as marionette lines)
  • Moderate to severe chin wrinkles

Sculptra treatments typically involve three to four sessions spaced out every four to six weeks. If you’d like to learn more about Sculptra and other collagen-boosting injectables, call us at 310.375.9595 to schedule a consultation today.
