IS SURGERY THE ONLY WAY TO TREAT VARICOSE VEINS?

Varicose vein treatment is sought for the following reasons: to relieve pain, improve cosmetic appearance, and prevent complications. At Lumier Medical, patients often come to us for a second opinion on treating their varicose veins. Often, these patients have consulted with their G.P. and have been told to have surgery to relieve the pain associated with varicose veins and to improve their appearance at the same time.

Although surgery can certainly fix varicose veins, sclerotherapy is another option for varicose vein treatment. This minimally invasive procedure is ideal for the mild to moderate appearance of unsightly veins. In sclerotherapy, a solution (sclerosant) is injected into the affected blood vessel, which makes the linings of the vessel shrink. Patients can expect barely visible and pain-free varicose veins after sclerotherapy.

How soon are the results noticeable?

Positive results will be visible a couple of days after treatment but desired outcomes will be noticed a month or two following treatment.

How many sclerotherapy sessions do I need to achieve desired outcomes?

The number of treatments required depends on the severity of your varicose veins. In most cases, two to three treatments spaced three to four weeks apart will obtain desired outcomes.
