Three Easy Steps to Slow Aging

botox-frownlines-300x1991There’s no way to stop aging. Even Ponce de Leon would agree on that. And it can be confusing to sort through the hundreds of products out there that claim to prevent the premature appearance of wrinkles — from crow’s feet to lip lines to the dreaded turkey neck.

At Lumier Medical, our approach to reducing the effects of skin aging is to help clients find products and procedures that will slow down the process without breaking the bank. Here are some options:

Smile!

This advice may sound New Age but it’s actually supported by science. The results of a study published in the American Psychological Association journal revealed that individuals with facial expressions that signify happiness are perceived as younger than their real age. In addition, a study by University College London researchers revealed that middle-aged men and women who report that they are happy most of the time have lower levels of cortisol (stress hormone) than those who report that they are perpetually sad, upset, or disappointed.

Consider resistance training.

Sure, cardio exercises do make you feel better and help promote heart health. However, a couple of recent studies have identified resistance training as effective in preventing bone loss and muscle atrophy, both of which are physical signs of aging. The results of this study demonstrated that a regular, progressive resistance routine, whether via free weights or a bodyweight routine, can reverse aging at the gene level.

Try preventative Botox.

Why wait for the right moment to have a facelift when you can use Botox? There is no question about the effectiveness of Botox injections for reducing the appearance of wrinkles. However, caution should be exercised in choosing an injector. Only a highly experienced and reliable Botox injector should be used to prevent complications.
