Xeomin®

XEOMIN® Torrance CA

XEOMIN® Torrance CAIn addition to BOTOX® and DYSPORT®, Lumiér Medical and Dr. Michael Lum now offer XEOMIN® to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.

What is XEOMIN®?

XEOMIN® is a botulinum toxin product that is injected directly into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults for a short period of time. XEOMIN® is a temporary treatment.

“XEOMIN® is a promising new option for both patients and physicians and we are encouraged by the response rates seen in the Phase III clinical trials,” said Derek H. Jones, M.D., an investigator for the XEOMIN® U.S. study, Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of California in Los Angeles, California.

How does XEOMIN® work?

When you squint or frown, the muscles between your eyebrows contract, causing the skin to furrow. Over time, as your skin ages and loses elasticity, this can cause deep wrinkles. XEOMIN® is a prescription medication, injected directly into the muscles between your eyebrows and around your eyes that are causing lines and wrinkles. XEOMIN® will eventually relax the muscles injected, reducing their ability to crease.

XEOMIN® works to relax your muscles and prevent future wrinkles; however it does not lift or fill the skin. XEOMIN® does not work to correct existing wrinkles. Over time, wrinkle lines at rest may relax and soften.

How is XEOMIN® Different?

After extended use, other botulinum toxin products may become ineffective. This is caused by antibodies forming to proteins in the drug. Unlike BOTOX® and DYSPORT®, XEOMIN® does not carry these proteins and therefore shows greater effectiveness following long‐term use.

What should I expect during my visit?

Lumiér Medical will set aside extra time for you to visit with Dr. Lum, discuss your concerns, and be carefully evaluated to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for this medical treatment.

A small needle will then be used to inject a few drops of XEOMIN® into the muscles between your eyebrows and around your eyes that are causing lines and wrinkles. XEOMIN® will eventually relax the muscle, which reduces its ability to crease.

How long will the treatment last?

Individual results may vary. However, expect to see results within 2‐3 days of treatment. The effects of XEOMIN® then typically last between 3‐6 months.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects include discomfort or pain at the injection site, dry mouth, tiredness, headache, neck pain and muscle weakness. Dr. Lum will discuss all the potential risks of this procedure with you during your consultation.

Side effects are usually minor and do not require medical treatment.

Is there any reason I should not receive this injection?

During your initial consultation at Lumiér Medical, Dr. Lum will discuss your health history and goals to determine if XEOMIN® is right for you.

There is a risk that any botulinum toxin product may spread from the injection site to other parts of the body. Although rare in cosmetic use, this phenomenon may cause muscle weakness, blurred vision, urinary incontinence and difficulties in breathing and swallowing. Difficulties breathing and swallowing can be life‐threatening conditions and patients experiencing these symptoms should seek immediate medical assistance. Read more about this condition and view important safety information at the XEOMIN® website.

You should not use this product if:

  • You have had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin products such as rimabotulinumtoxinB (MYOBLOC®), onabotulinumtoxinA (BOTOX®, BOTOX® COSMETIC), or abobotulinumtoxinA (DYSPORT®).
  • You have a skin infection at the injection site.

Individuals with peripheral motor neuropathic diseases, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or neuromuscular junctional disorders (e.g., myasthenia gravis or Lambert‐Eaton syndrome) should be monitored closely when given any botulinum toxin. Patients with neuromuscular disorders may be at increased risk of clinically significant effects including severe dysphagia and respiratory compromise from typical doses of XEOMIN®.
